Watercolor Nativity Quilt Journey Conclusion

It’s finished!!!!  Can you hear my big sigh of relief?  I put my mind to finishing the watercolor nativity quilt this week. I really wanted to have it hanging up for Christmas and I’m thrilled that it is finished with a few weeks to spare!

Here it is —

And another photo…

And lastly a close up of the star…

So in the end I did paint the features on the faces.  I used Jacquard Textile Paints and a tiny brush that is used for making dots.  I was really nervous that I would make the features too thick and then the whole thing would just look…well…silly.  So if the features appear thin, that is why!

I stitched around the appliques and added some stitching as beams of light coming down from the star.  My plan was to stipple the background but it proved unnecessary because the stitching would have looked lost with all those small squares as the background.  I did stitch in the ditch between the background and the inner black border so that the quilt layers were secure all the way around and not just around the appliques.
