I had some time over the weekend to work on the watercolor nativity quilt. I realized I had better get going on this project if it’s to be used this Christmas!!! The first thing I needed to do was to sew the seams of the background in the opposite direction than I did before.
This is what it looks like on the back. Next I added two borders to the background. I added a narrow, inner, black border and then a wider, blue border.
The next step is to add the applique’s which are created with paper backed fusible such as Thermoweb Lite or Steam A Seam. I pulled out the applique templates and nearly had a heart attack when I saw all those tiny pieces!!! The pattern says if you are opposed to cutting tiny pieces you could have a friend do it for you! I had to laugh because I don’t think any of my friends would still be my friends if I stuck them with this task!
I decided to start with the stable and the star. I realized that I really love the idea of this quilt but that I may have to make some adjustments to it in order to finish by Christmas. I am finding though that some of the fabrics provided in the kit are not quite large enough to accommodate the pattern pieces. Luckily, I know where some fabric lives in my house. 😉
This next picture is where I’ve left off until I get another chunk of time to work on it.

Looks great so far!
I’m dying to find a way to multitask while I’m cutting out applique shapes. Maybe I can figure out how to podcast at the same time and I’ll be cooking with gas. Until then, I just flick the TV on.
