Watercolor Quilt Journey Part 2

I couldn’t wait to get up this morning to work on the watercolor nativity quilt!  Today’s mission was to finish fusing the 2″ squares to the Quilt Grid.  I had left off 7 rows into the quilt with arranging the squares by VALUE onto this grid.  If you’d like to see the first part of this series, click here.

Here is the fusing completed.

The next step is to start stitching the rows together.  Keeping in mind that all of those little squares are now safely fused to the grid, I head to the sewing machine without fear of picking the quilt up and moving it around.

The stitching is done by folding over the rows one by one and stitching a 1/4″ seam.  Once the rows in one direction are complete, the seams are pressed in one direction and then you sew the opposite seams.  This morning I got through stitching in the first direction.

I am a big believer in pinning things while I sew so I did pin the rows a bit before stitching.  I wanted to make sure that I was stitching even lines because in a quilt like this, it really does matter.

So the next chance I get to work on this project, I will stitch the rows going in the opposite direction.  Once that is done and the seams are pressed, I will be moving on to attaching borders and then beginning the appliqued nativity scene.

This week I’ll be recording a new podcast episode.
