Wednesday Stuff

Monday night was my quilt guild meeting and the speaker was Carol Ann Waugh. My mom and I were slated to take her workshop on portraiture Saturday but as you probably know by now, my mom was recovering from a hospital stay and we canceled out of the workshop. We did get to see samples of what the girls made during the workshop though and they were adorable! Here’s a picture of the Ladies Who Lunch quilts that Carol Ann brought with her to show. The workshop was based on this type of technique.

I took it on my iphone so the quality isn’t too good but I think you get the point. These quilts were adorable. Carol Ann is a very funny and talented woman. She has written several books including her newest one called Stupendous Stitching. This is a really cool looking book that teaches the techniques of using decorative stitches as well as couching to make beautiful fiber art. Carol Ann likes to use rattail as binding and for couching. Check out her website if you have a minute by clicking here.
I think my kids might enjoy trying those portraits over the summer. Carol Ann uses metal, jewelry and netting to jazz up the quilts. Doesn’t it look like fun? I was thinking this week how lucky I am to belong to such a wonderful guild that is able to retain these amazing speakers…we’ve had a lot of great ones! Kudos to the programs committee!!!

This morning was my church quilt group. I found a treasure in one of the boxes of donated fabric. Once I have it washed and pressed, I’ll share it with you!

Today I am also working on my floral wall hanging which I spent two hours this morning ripping stitches out of…gotta love that! Thank goodness for seam rippers. I also got a quick walk around the block in and now I’m on the afternoon “mom taxi” job. I did listen to a few podcasts this morning and noticed that Sandy from Quilting For The Rest of Us watched the same episode of the Quilt Show that I did with Pepper Cory. Pepper does amazing Sashiko work and seeing that show has left a desire within me to explore this art form a bit more. Maybe at the next quilt show I go to I can look for some supplies and templates. I think Pepper seems like an amazing person. Here is her website if you’d like more information…click here.

That’s it for me today…have a wonderful afternoon!
Sandi
