My Gingerbread Friend

This is the gingerbread man my grandmother made for me when I was very young.  I imagine this little guy must be 30+ years old as I am going on 41 next month!  I don’t remember exactly how old I was when my grandmother gave him to me.  I only know that I could never part with it because he’s so darn cute and it reminds me of Grammy Holmes.  She put a lot of love and care into making him and that is how she approached every project in her life.

I love how she embroidered his hair and the highlights around his eyes.  I also wonder how she came up with the pattern for this little guy.  Perhaps one day soon I’ll put my mind to replicating this one.

If you’d like to read more about Grammy Holmes and why I feel we quilt, please read the post from Aug. 2011.  Click here to be brought to that post.

Happy Quilting!
