Word Of The Year and Fabric Collage

Happy 2023, everyone!
I love January and that clean slate feeling! It’s a time for new planners, new goals, new supplies, and of course, a new word for the year! My word for last year was connection. I’m not sure how I did with that one and I’m not going to analyze it since it’s a time to move forward. My year for 2023 is RESTORE. After a very busy year, I’m feeling ready for some restoration of mind, body, spirit. I’m looking forward to revisiting things I love in an unhurried manner. What is your word for 2023? I would love to hear about it and why you chose it!

I’m back in the quilting studio finishing up my second piece in the Rockport Series and about to start the third. This fabric collage had one set of borders that I ended up taking off and instead went with the rock fabric. I love the way it came out. I used some textile paint from ProChem to add the finer details.

The original photo looked like this…

So this piece will be given what I call the resin treatment in a few days. I discovered that I love the look of resin over a fabric collage when I gave it a try on the first Rockport piece…

It gets a beautifully saturated sheen…

I’ll post again when the second piece has the resin on it. My next project for this series and possible the last (not entirely sure yet) will be a collage using this photo.

I’m really looking forward to recreating the photo in fabric.

I’m very excited for all that 2023 will hold! And it started with some really good news today that a photo of mine was selected as the photo of the day for the Better Photo website. For several years I’ve submitted photos and this one was chosen. What tickles me the most is that in the introduction of the photo, the author writes about the depth of field I used and it just makes me happy because two years ago, I didn’t even know what that meant. I bought the camera and put in a lot of time to learn the basics and it paid off today!

Please leave a comment and update me on your word of the year and what you are working on!
