Why I Love A Quilt A Long

A few years ago my quilty group of students and I decided a quilt a long would be a fun challenge! We chose a pattern and everyone made the same quilt but in different colors. It turned out to be a whole lot of fun and now we are on our third year of doing it. I particularly enjoy it because it brings the whole group together focused on learning the same skills and techniques. It’s exciting to hear the ideas and tips being exchanged. This year we are making a pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Company called the Snowballed Disappearing Four Patch. This is what it looks like finished…

Last week we kicked off the quilt a long with a workshop at my house and lots of pretty blocks were being made…

I’m excited to see how beautiful each one will be! If you are making this quilt and want to share your photos, I’d love to see them!

I haven’t been sitting at my sewing machine much over the last two weeks. Leah has taken my place making these adorable bucket hats! She found a tutorial online and started making a bunch of them and sure enough, orders started coming in from friends and family.

Well, as any crafty entrepreneur knows, once it becomes a business it sometimes isn’t as fun! I think she’s finding that out now, lol! In a few weeks she’ll be off to college and I guess her bucket hat business will be on hiatus. The hats sure are cute and I have LOVED watching her at the machine!

This has been a very fun and busy weekend for our family as we enjoyed having all three girls home to celebrate Leah’s 18th birthday. Amanda made the trip from NH and Lindsey came from VT. Nothing makes me happier than hanging out with these girls.

We surprised Leah with a Carlos Bakery Cake that she has been wanting for about a full year. I found that I could order one online through a service called Goldbelly and it sure didn’t disappoint. Not only was it a fun cake but it was delicious as well!

We’re in a heat wave here in MA so today I’m staying indoors and catching up on life. If you missed my latest newsletter or are not signed up for it, you can catch it here:

What are you all working on this week?

  1. That looks like a fun block… I’m prepping the longarm to quilt. Using Microquilter and a test top for a pattern and the thread… and well see if I the skill to quilt what is in my head free-motion… Big question there!!!

    • Hi Beth, I bet you will surprise yourself with how great you do! I’d love to see pictures and to hear how you like the Microquilter. Enjoy the day!
