Why I’m Feeling Super Great About Quilting Right Now!

quilt cabana patterns blog

There are so many fun quilty things happening in my life right now and I’m bursting with excitement about each and every one of them! First off, I finished the May Step Into Your Art 2019 project. The goal was to come up with a piece that reflects select M words such as mosaic, montage, motion, mixed media, etc. I chose mosaic because I’m drawn to itty bitty tiles.

I didn’t however want to cut and stitch itty bitty tiles so I used another technique that I saw recently. I fused a turtle applique to a background fabric and then I stitched a 1/4″ grid over the entire surface.

This made the project more efficient and I still LOVE the result! I’ll use this technique in a more sophisticated manner in the future. If you are interested in joining in on the Step Into Your Art fun, join our group on Facebook. You can find it on the Quilt Cabana Patterns business page.

The next exciting thing was our Fusible Fun workshop last week! We learned the technique of fusible applique while making mug rugs! We laughed, stitched, and ate! What’s better than that?

While we were all gathered for the workshop, we started to plan our summer quilt a long! We’ll be making one of two quilts that are currently free patterns. They are both one block star quilts. The first is the Royal Star Quilt which is from the APQS blog.

This quilt measures 80″x80″ but I shrunk it down to a 60″x60″ pattern which seemed a better size for our quilters.

The second quilt is a 64″x64 pattern from Hoffman called the Sweet Tea Barn Star quilt.

If you are interested in joining along on either of these projects, let me know. I’ll be happy to fill you in on the details, just send me a message at colwellsg@comcast.net

Our first quilt a long workshop is June 11th.

My long arm machine has been quite busy and I finished up this beauty by Terry last week.

Everyone who saw this one on my machine absolutely loved it! Great work, Terry!

I’ve recently begun writing a devotional for creatives. It’s a process I am enjoying immensely. I have always felt that people who create at some point or another cycle through all the feelings of joy, fear, doubt, comparison, perfectionism, and so much more. This 52 week devotional is a way for all of us to celebrate and soothe the fears together. If you can relate and have suggestions for me, please drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you.

Just a housekeeping note: The contact form on my website was not working last week. It is now working so feel free to send a message that way. Also, I have heard from a few of you about local quilt lessons and I have replied but for some reason, Comcast is dumping lots of messages into the Spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you were awaiting a reply.

I hope you are feeling as excited as I am about a fun summer of quilting! I’d love to hear what you are working on today!
