New Podcast Episode & Pics of Pat’s Studio

Yesterday was a great learning day.  I love when I attend a workshop and come home feeling inspired and invigorated.  My mom and I attended Pat Delaney’s workshop on free motion quilting at Pat’s studio in Abington, MA.  Pat has a beautiful home and a wonderful husband who not only lugged our sewing machines from the car to the basement but also prepared lunch for all of us and then…wait for it…cleaned the dishes!  Thanks so much to both Pat and Matt for their hospitality.

Pat is an award winning quilter as you can see from her many ribbons.  Her work is masterful and her techniques are unique.  She shares her expansive knowledge of quilt making with students in classes run out of her basement studio.  The studio is spacious and even has a kitchenette for coffee and biscotti breaks.

The workshop I was attended was called Fills, Feathers and Fancies.  Pat offers this and many other exciting classes.  To see the complete course list, please visit her website www.crabtreelane.com  You can also see a gallery of Pat’s work there.

In this class we learned the basics of free motion quilting beginning with stippling and moving on up to feathers!  I couldn’t believe I was making feathers by the end of the day.  No, they aren’t perfect feathers but it’s a great start.  The last photo shows my sample work.  Keep in mind the feathers were made without marking the quilt.

If you would like to hear more about my experience at Pat’s workshop and where she is teaching in April, please listen to podcast episode 16 that was recorded this morning and will be available on iTunes later today.  You can listen to this and a book review of Kim Kight’s A Field Guide To Fabric Design now by clicking here.

The photos of Pat’s studio don’t even do it justice.  My camera doesn’t have a wide angle lens which would have been nice to capture the spaciousness of her work area.  Enjoy the photos!

Look at all those ribbons!  And there were even more ribbons across the room from that photo. Pat won a first place at the International Quilt Festival.

Happy Quilting!
