It’s that time of year again! Our vacation is over, two kids are moved into college, and the third starts her junior year of high school tomorrow. It’s definitely time to get back into the groove again. We kicked things off this morning with our second Jacob’s Ladder Quilt-A-Long workshop. On the agenda today was cutting, stitching sub units, and then turning those sub units into blocks. We worked steadily from 9am-1pm and I think we all accomplished quite a bit and had some good laughs and refreshments!
The quilts will be different color variations using Jacob’s Ladder blocks. Earlier in the month, we got together to choose our colorways and practice making a block. We then ordered fabric and began cutting on our own. This past week, I cut all 720 pieces!
The quilt requires two types of sub units. One is four patches and the other is half square triangles.
We all found out that this takes a considerable amount of time. LOL!
We also found out, sometimes the hard way, that rotating a sub unit accidentally makes for a long morning when you have to rip it out of the block! Boo hoo.
Here are a few pictures of some of our finished blocks…the first are Sharyn’s beautiful fall colored ones…
Eileen’s gorgeous blue and cream blocks…we all drooled over the beautiful shade of blue…
Gail’s awesome Christmas blocks…
And my blueberry pie block…
Nancy and Priscilla were unable to attend today and we surely missed them! Our group will meet again next month and continue working on the quilts. Hopefully we’ll be ready to stitch blocks into rows!
Other projects I’m currently working on include a customer t-shirt quilt, a project for a an upcoming publication, and an article for my quilt guild. I’m currently booking private lessons as well. It’s going to be a quilty fall and I love it! Hope you’ll join along!
It’s not too early to start projects like the Coming Down The Chimney wall hanging! Find it in my Craftsy store!
