Three Things To Think About When You Are Buying A New Sewing Machine

In today’s episode of Quilt Cabana Corner (episode 6), I’m talking about three things to consider as you get ready to purchase a new machine. Having just purchased a new machine this week, I felt there was a lot to share on the topic. Here is the video…

The machine I bought was a Bernina. I traded in my Babylock Symphony for a Bernina because I was due for a service and not totally loving the free motion capability on the machine. My grandmother had a Bernina and I have always wanted one so when I went to the sewing center, those were the ones I was focused on. I ended up getting the floor model of a Bernina 535 as it had everything I really wanted and a great price since it was Bernina’s birthday sale and National Sewing Machine Day! In honor of my grandmother, I’m calling her Daisy. You know how I love to name my machines!!!

I immediately set to work on finishing my portrait quilt of Amanda. I had it almost completed when the Babylock started acting up. I am pleased to say, the free motion quilting is finished and I’m ready for binding!

And here is the back because we all love to see the back of a quilt!

The free motion was so much easier on the new machine. I can’t wait to do more art quilts now that I know the machine can keep up with me.

Which machine do you all have at home? What are some of the features that you love/hate about it?
