Visit to shops part 2

In the same week that my neighbor mentioned Heartbeat Quilts to me, a friend of my mom’s mentioned it to her also.  Since we were headed to the Cape, we decided to pay the shop a visit.  Heartbeat Quilts is located at 765 Main Street in Hyannis.  The store is tucked away in the bottom of a building and you enter the shop from the rear parking lot.  I have to tell you, the entrance is deceiving!  Once you step inside this 5,000 square foot quilt shop, you’ll think you entered paradise!  The staff was very helpful and friendly.  The girls once again found a place to sit while mom and I moved through room after room of fabrics, notions, patterns, and books.  Whereas Tumbleweeds has high ceilings, Heartbeat has low ceilings but the store rambles on and on through different rooms.  It feels as though you are walking through a house.  The owner of the store was not there on this day but her lovely quilts and fabrics were on display.  Helen Weinman owns the store, designs fabrics for Timeless Treasures, and designs for several magazines.  I thought the store had an amazing inventory of fabric and one of the better inventories of quilt stencils that I have seen.  Cheery quilt samples line the walls and a twin size bed is made up in the middle of the front room complete with quilt and shams from Helen’s beautiful fabric collection.  The colors of that collection are blue and yellow which stole my heart at the first glance.  My two younger daughters were thrilled to see that Heartbeat also had the swimming pool full of 9″x11″ rolled fabrics!  Heartbeat has a website and can be found here:

Here are some photos I took while in the shop.

Don’t forget to weigh in on what matters most to you when visiting a quilt shop!  Comment, Facebook, or Tweet me so your thoughts can be included in September’s podcast.

Have a super day!  I hope you get lots of quilting in on this summer Friday!

  1. I like a quilt shop where someone says Hi, when I come in. Even better when they smile. I like bright lights. A good selection is important, but I realize every shop can’t have it all. Small samples are great, but as much as I like large quilts, having a sample at a store, probably will not convince me to buy a kit. If there is a new notion it would be a good thing to have a little demo/sample hanging near by. For example, I’ve have a zig zag rotary blade for a year or more, and just got it out to try. it is soooo cool, I wish I’d tried it before now. And a good book selection. And a good clearance section. And, and, and, more. LOL
