Quilty Christmas Loot

Just a quick post to say that I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! Are you getting ready for 2015 by cleaning out the sewing rooms and writing down your goals? I wrote briefly about my 2015 goals in the last post. You can read it here.

Here are few pictures of the quilty items I received for Christmas. I really didn’t ask for much in the way of quilting because my sewing room is chalk full of unfinished projects…do you know what I mean? LOL!

I got this redwork mitten set and I’ve stitched up 3 mittens already. I still have to turn them into ornaments but it has kept me busy while watching tv and hanging out with the family.

I’ve been using my new Big Ben scissors on these ornaments.

My mom gave me a tailor’s clapper! This is used for crisp seams and creases. You steam the seam and then press down on it with this clapper. I can’t wait to try it out.

My sister gave me Abby Glassenberg’s Stuffed Animals From Concept to Construction book along with some safety eyes for making softees. She also gave me this neat book on The Farmer’s Wife quilt. I was unfamiliar with the story of The Farmer’s Wife quilt until now. The Farmer’s Wife was a magazine in the 1920’s that posed the question to farmer’s wives about how they would feel if their daughter were to marry a farmer. It was a contest and the best replies won money. This book includes 40 of the letters and all the quilt blocks they inspired. The quilt is made up of 111 blocks. There is a cd in the back with the templates and instructions…pretty cool!

So that was my Christmas loot! Tomorrow I’m looking forward to cleaning out my sewing room so I can get started back on projects that have been waitlisted for some time.

We had a wonderful Christmas celebrating with family and friends. The house is half put together and cleaned up. The rest of the Christmas clean up will come on New Year’s Day. The day after Christmas was spent in amazement at Leah who put together her 4,295 piece London Bridge Lego set in 24 hours. There were 3 instruction books and 28 bags of Legos which were NOT numbered. The kid has stamina! Here she is all finished…

More soon but I need to get some dinner on the table! Take care everyone!

  1. Wow Leah. That is impressive. So cool. My DH would do something like that but me… not so much. I thought at first it was going to be a jigsaw puzzle. We usually do some over the Christmas break but so far we haven’t… maybe this coming week when number 1 son is home and we have Christmas mark 2

You got some lovely gifts. I didn’t get much in the way of quilting stuff. I think my family think I have way too much and they aren’t going to encourage me! I did get an iPad from dh though so that is wonderfully amazing. And some gorgeous earrings from DD and Doctor Who season 8 dvds from DS 2 and 3. DS1 gets home tomorrow and we shall see what we get from him. My santa stocking contained a gingher seam unripper ( Spelling up the creek there cause I can’t find the packet) I got it off Massdrop and its lovely….. so can’t complain. A good friend gave me a Willow Tree figurine which is just beautiful too so was very blessed
