Inspiring

I had such a nice surprise this weekend when I returned home from celebrating my mom’s 70th birthday.  My husband went out to the mailbox and said, “You have a letter from Debbie Macomber.”  I said, “Oh, it’s probably one of her newsletters”.  He handed me an envelope and said, “No, I really think it’s a letter.” Well, he was right!  I have been a long time fan of Debbie Macomber’s writing.  She has so many wonderful books in print.  I especially love her Cedar Cove series.  Several years ago, I contacted Debbie through her website and told her of my desire to write a book.  She sent me a reply which still hangs in my studio, that said to go for it, dream big, and trust in God.  So I did just that and have my new book, Little Quilts for Big Occasions,  to show for it!  When the book came out, I wrote to Debbie again, telling her how much her words her inspire me and that although I truly thought my book would be fiction, it looked like God had another plan for me in the way of quilts.  So to mailbox arrived a beautiful card, hand written by Debbie, and accompanied with some lovely teas, congratulating me on my new book.  She is a gift – a true, rare, gift.  I admire her faith and her work and how she is available and willing to help those of us just beginning our careers.  I aspire to be like Debbie someday.  I hope we all can be open to helping one another and sharing our gifts.

Those are my thoughts for today.  Please share in a comment who you admire and how that person may have helped you.  I’d love to read about it.

Warmly,

Sandi
