Workin’ On It Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!

I spent my time this week on a few things. The first was getting Leah’s room finished up. I also worked on project #12 as I like to call it.

I spent a few hours working on the thread sketching of the butterfly quilt. I have a podcast episode ready to post that talks about this but I’m having a Podbean disk space issue that was supposed to be resolved this morning but isn’t…so I hope to have that episode up sometime later today or tomorrow…anyhow…this is the quilt so far.

I have completed the green stems and leaves. I am still working on the purple and pink colors. Next will be the yellow flower centers, butterfly and sky. This will of course be trimmed down so you don’t see where I ‘traveled’ with my thread around the edges. It has been a very fun and relaxing process now that my thread is working correctly.

I had great mail this week….

My day on the blog tour is Monday, April 29th! Join me for prizes!

Last night I was at Leah’s school and I stopped to admire a piece of art on the wall and look who it belonged to!

Yup, it was Leah’s piece! All of the pieces were beautiful but hers struck me and I laughed when I saw she was the artist. These were done with watercolors and salt! Yes, need to know more about that process.

I hope that you have read up on the Project Hope Online Quilt Show. If not read about it here and over at Quilting For The Rest Of Us.

Hope to post with an episode soon! Oh but I’ll tell you the question of the month and you can think about that…what is one technique that you haven’t learned yet but would like to?

  1. Hi Sandi, how cool it is to see your daughter’s artwork not even knowing it belongs to her! 🙂
I have not learned how to master needle turn applique or any type of applique really. But would love to learn needle turn since we are on the road a lot when we go for vacation (we drive everywhere) and would be a great thing to do in the car (I’m not the driver :D) Also to learn embroidery stitches. I used to embroider when I was still in school, but only used the stem stitch and satin stitch. 🙂

    • I would love to know how to do needle turn applique better myself. My mother’s friend gave her a lesson and she is going to show me how to do it sometime.

I’d love to know if that the watercolors with the salt will work on fabric like it did for Leah’s project.
      Thanks for stopping by!
      Sandi

  2. Sandi, your work on the butterfly quilt is lovely, lovely! I’m glad you found it relaxing. Leah’s painting is colorful and imaginative. I’m not surprised you were drawn to it. Yes, paint and salt effect can be done on fabric. I did it a few years ago. Can’t remember details, but we probably used Seta Color paints. It was an interesting friendship group meeting, on front lawn and in open garage, most of us in smocks, one in a bathrobe, giggling, laying our fabric out to dry on the grass.
