Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for the quiet moments in life when you can sit with a cup of coffee and a lap top and explore new options, reconnect with family and friends, rest in the breath of God.

What are you thankful for today?

I have received a notice from Podbean that I have exceeded my bandwidth for the month. I have no idea what that means but due to this, they are blocking my podcast from public view until the first of February when the limit will reset to zero. So if you are looking for my podcast today, it may be unavailable. I really don’t want to pay more money to upgrade my account with them as I’m already paying for a basic plus account (whatever that gets me). I deleted a few older podcasts but was told by Podbean that deleting episodes doesn’t get you more bandwidth. I’ll monitor the situation with them and see what I can do. I think we’ll be all set after tomorrow.
Anyone know what the whole bandwidth thing really means?

  1. * According to the Podbean email I just received, the bandwidth refers to the traffic usage on the podcast site. So I guess that would mean perhaps there’s more traffic to the podcast which is a good thing…in its own way.

  2. Think of Bandwidth like gasoline. The more you drive around the more gasoline you use. You’re given an amount of gasoline at the beginning of each month from Podbean to use. If you want more gasoline they make you buy it from them.

This means you’re limited as far as the number of miles (or episode downloads) you can go in a month. This is how Podbean makes their money.

I was using another podcast hosting service with more bandwidth per month and still ran out so I ended up switching to a self-hosted website where I hosted my own files and got unlimited bandwidth. This way all my past episodes can be downloaded on iTunes and I don’t have to ever worry about running out. The plus side is it’s MUCH cheaper than paid subscription services like Podbean. You pay one price annually for your website. You might be doing that now for QuiltCabanaPatterns.com.

Pam got rid of Podbean last year and went self-hosted like me.

    • That makes sense, thanks Katie. I pay for the Quilt Cabana website but it’s through Ipage. Not sure it would work the same way. It’s something to check into for sure. Thanks again.
