Oh my goodness, where to begin on this gorgeous Friday! Summer is here and Leah finished up school yesterday. It was glorious not setting an alarm last night! It’s such a perfect day outside that I’ve decided to sit by the pool and do my computer work this morning. I might have to set my sewing machine up out here as well. Maybe put that hand crank machine to work this summer?
Another super busy week has gone by and I have finishes to share with you. These are not only my own but student finishes as well. After our bargello workshop in April, everyone has been finishing up their projects at their own pace. I am amazed at how beautiful and different each one is. Gail was here yesterday working on hers and I am in love with her fabric choices! She’s not quite done but she will be shortly. Check this out!
Eileen has finished hers completely and the colors are stunning! Way to go, Eileen!
Sharyn finished hers up and sent me her photo finish! This picture doesn’t quite do the piece justice. It’s an adorable nautical bargello and the fabrics have anchors and lighthouses, etc. When I see Sharyn next, I’ll take another photo to share.
My own finish came in the form of the portrait quilt of Amanda. Once I had my new sewing machine figured out, it was a breeze to finish up. I hung it in the dining room for now.
I enjoyed this process very much. It started with a photo that I took of Amanda in Maui last summer…
I posterized it on the computer so I could see the values better and then I used a value scale to determine the fabric used..
After cutting and gluing the fabric pieces to a piece of white fabric, I placed a tulle overlay on the piece and quilted it. And this is how it finished up…
This past weekend was Lindsey’s orientation at the University of Vermont. Greg, Lindsey, and I headed up there on Saturday for a Sunday/Monday orientation period. We made a few stops along the way at breweries that Greg was interested in seeing and we also stopped at Green Mountain Coffee where Lindsey and I had a grand time choosing new coffee flavors!
We spent time walking along Lake Champlain which is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited…
Here’s Lindsey outside of The Alchemist brewery taking in the very green mountain state…
Greg enjoyed a beer on Father’s Day. This one was at Magic Hat Brewery where I had a fantastic elderberry beer…
We spent time on Church Street where this 120 foot mural of all things and people Vermont lives…
Of course my favorite iconic Vermont’er is Maria Von Trapp…
On Monday we stopped at the Yankee Pride quilt shop in Essex Junction on fellow Twilter Carol’s recommendation. It was a two story quilt shop with lots of fabric. I picked up taupe Aurifil which is my go to color for piecing, the jelly roll rug pattern, and neutral fat quarters for making portrait quilts.
Lindsey was able to spend time on campus, register for classes, attend a study abroad session, and a few social events. It was a fun weekend!
