Summer Pattern Sale!

Three of my favorite summer patterns will be half price on Craftsy all summer long! You can find these three patterns for $5.25 each HERE.

Nautical Table Runner QCP-304

Seaglass QCP-109

Third Seasonal Trio QCP-103

So come and get your summer patterns while the weather is hot and the sewing room is hopefully cool!

This week I’m still plugging along on quilting the love notes quilt for Lindsey. I am enjoying ruler work for the lines on the  inner border and the center block flower motif. The outer border is getting a stipple treatment. The corners of the love notes are getting a free motion back and forth squiggle. How’s that for a technical term?

This is taking time but as I mentioned, I’m ok with that because I like the results. The rulers are fun to work with and I’m discovering more things I can do with the ones I own. It’s also the first time I’m floating a quilt top which simply means the top is not attached to a roller. I’m using the painter’s tape that you see in the photo as a guide on each end of the pole. I know my quilt top must line up with the tape or it will be quilted crooked. It’s good to keep learning and using easier ways to quilt.

Have a super weekend, everybody!

Sewing Progress & An Interesting Article

Happy Thursday!

It’s been a slow week for me over here as I’ve been saddled with a cold and some nasty fatigue. I’m feeling better today so I’m thrilled. I tried to get in some sewing for the craft fair in December and I managed to make a few tote bags and even some Star Wars bibs.

After asking around a bit about the best way to do the closures on the bibs, I settled on plastic snaps. I ordered this Kam Snap Plier bundle set from Amazon for $25. It came yesterday but I haven’t tried it yet.

I ordered some Minion and Frozen fabric this week too. It has arrived and it is washed and waiting to be pressed. These will be for pillow cases.

I came across this article from James Clear about creativity and whether it is a function of destiny or development. It speaks to creativity being a process. I think it’s a great read and very inspiring. What do you think?

Turtle’s Pace

Ever feel like you’re moving at turtle’s pace? That’s how I’m feeling this week. I have a million things to do but every day life is getting in the way of progress.  It’s the urgent v. the important all day long. Everything seems urgent this week and some of it is important but the lines are blurred amongst the dance rehearsals, dentist appointments, doctor appointments and influx of school paper work. I kind of feel like giving up. Of course right when I wanted to throw in the towel, this amazing article arrived in my mailbox on the topic of giving up or gutting it out.  This one section stood out to me the most:

This Is Life

Life is a constant balance between giving into the ease of distraction or overcoming the pain of discipline. It is not an exaggeration to say that our lives and our identities are defined in this delicate balance. What is life, if not the sum of a hundred thousand daily battles and tiny decisions to either gut it out or give it up?

This moment when you don’t feel like doing the work? This is not a moment to be thrown away. This is not a dress rehearsal. This moment is your life as much as any other moment. Spend it in a way that will make you proud.

—-James Clear

So I’m gutting it out right here with you now. Yesterday I worked for a few solid hours on the T-shirt quilt. I completed all of the measuring, remeasuring, stabilizing and cutting.

2015-06-10 07.58.14

I laid them all out and started making sashing strips. The sashing will be black which is by request of the young lady. I took a quick picture and sent it to her to confirm that is wasn’t too much black but in typical kid fasion, that is what she likes best. So I’ll continue with that this week. The quilt will have a pretty red fleece backing.

2015-06-10 07.57.41

I had some great news last week that my Hanukkah Celebrations mini quilt pattern will be offered on the beautiful 1-800-dreidel website. The pattern isn’t up there yet but should be by the end of the week.

Works In Progress

Happy Happy Wednesday!!!

This week has been a productive one around here. I’ve been mostly working on getting Leah’s Elsa costume ready. She has a Halloween party coming up soon and so it has to be done by then and of course, ready for Halloween night. Leah found a do it yourself type costume on the internet where you make the skirt, bodice and cape. The neck and sleeves are just a white t-shirt. I asked her if she wanted to order a costume but she really wanted it to look like the pictures she found. It’s turning out to be fairly simple. Basically all the pieces are made, we just need to get them all on her for a trial run.

Here is Leah helping to make the cape. The white snowflakes are fabric and the smaller ones that shimmer are painted paper. We used tacky glue to attach to the tulle.

This is how it will all look. She will have her hair done with a nice side braid just like Elsa’s.

This week I also started making drawstring backpacks and makeup bags for a comic show that a friend is vending. Hoping to finish those up today.

I am also working on setting up a store front on my website so that I can sell my patterns for cute projects like these right on my website….

Of course you can still find these on Craftsy in my pattern shop there. Eventually I’ll have some notions for sale there as well.

Hope you are having a crafty week!!!

Double Slice Layer Cake & First Seasonal Trio

While I was at Keepsake Quilting, I picked up this Moda layer cake.
photo (46)

My plan for this is to make it into a Double Slice Layer Cake quilt for the music school to raffle off next year. My mom recently made this beautiful one with a Riley Blake layer cake (that rhymes quite nicely). LOL.

I love the way it came out. My mother found this tutorial from Missouri Quilt Company for instructions.

Keepsake Trip, Summer Roller Coaster, Devotionals, Patterns & Give-Aways!

photo (35)

We had our wonderful trip to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor, NH last week. Here’s Leah picking out some Dr. Seuss fabric for some pillows she is going to make herself. The trip was a quick one but we managed to get into the quilt shop twice in 24 hours! I didn’t purchase a lot this time around as I made the mistake of going there without a clear plan. I was hoping for coordinating music themed fabric for the music school quilt but this time around the selection of music fabric was slim. Instead I opted for a non-music themed layer cake and I will make something of that for next year’s raffle.

Here are more pictures from the trip…

Trick Or Treat
Trick or Treat

These are 12″ x 12″ mini quilts that fit into the Ackfeld table stands.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them!

The last topic for today’s post has to do with the summer roller coaster syndrome I’m experiencing. Since the end of the school year, I feel as though I have pretty much just been struggling to keep up around here. The laundry is piled high, the flower beds need attention, the bathrooms need cleaning, the blog needs updating, a podcast is overdue, patterns need writing, new projects are a joke at the moment and no exercise is happening. The reasons why I’m behind are all fun things…the kids are home, the friends are over, places to go, packing for vacation, summer activities, etc, etc, etc. I have no right to complain but I still have that feeling that I’m not achieving anything. Honestly, it gives me anxiety. I just want to pass along to you that it seems every time I’m down and I open my Daily Guideposts book, the exact right message is waiting for me and somehow makes me feel better. I don’t know if you are familiar with Daily Guideposts but it’s a book that contains a daily devotional. I went on their website this morning and saw that you can sign up for a free 30 day devotional by email. So for 30 days, you will receive an email with a devotional. It’s a nice way to try it out. This is not something sponsored just something that I thought you might want to try out.

Happy Sunday!

Workin’ On It & A Sneak Peek Reveal!!!

This week has been a quiet one and I loved it! We went to the beach and I tried out my first in the hoop embroidery design. I had seen quite a few people making these on Twitter and I figured I’d give it a try…now I know why they made them…they are addictive!!! These are little pouches that you fit on your key-chain with a split ring. It’s big enough for chap-stick, coins, Splenda, etc.

Here are the ones I made this week:

I did format and send off my Coming Down The Chimney Pattern to be printed so that will be available shortly as will my 4 new Seasonal Trio patterns…stay tuned…..ok, sneak peek…here is what the seasonal ones look like. They will be available through QuiltWoman, shops near you and through my website.
