Christmas Patterns, Fitness Fri & TBT

We made it to Friday! Yahooooooooo!!!

Let’s begin with Fitness Friday or lack thereof. I’m not even going to bother posting my steps for the week as I only had one day that was over 8,000 steps. The weather has been less than stellar and the pile of paperwork and sewing has kept me a desk/sewing machine jockey all week. I did manage to lose two pounds which makes me wonder if my new diet strategy should be a daily slice of blueberry pie ala mode and no exercise because it seems to have worked for me this week!! LOL! Care to join me?

Postcard Swap Reminder —- deadline is approaching, get those postcards finished up and in the mail, ladies!

And don’t forget to post photos of them in the newly created Fall Fabric Postcard Swap 2014 group on Flickr

My Throwback Thursday photo is a day late…this is one of many gorgeous pin cushions that my grandmother, Daisy, made in the hay day of her sewing career. Isn’t it beautiful with the ribbons folded just so. I have two or more of these in my sewing storage and I’ve always been afraid to use them because they are too pretty. I pulled one out this week and started to use it because it makes me feel connected to her in many ways. I’m sure she’d rather it be used then looked at and then put away for another 5 years.

I officially started my newsletter back up again this week. If you would like to be on the mailing list for it, please CLICK HERE and scroll to bottom. I do not ever and will not ever sell your email address so please feel confident adding your email to the list. The newsletter will have its own content and hopefully not repeat too many things you read here on the blog.

I think Christmas is sneaking into the hearts and minds of people this week. I LOVE Christmas and I feel like we could all use some serious joy in our hearts and minds right about now. I have had several pattern sales of Coming Down The Chimney in the last few days. If you are interested in ordering this pattern, you can find it here on Craftsy.

All in all it was a pretty decent week walking-wise for me. On Monday, I started tracking and measuring food portions again and I also cut way back on sweets. The result was a two pound loss.

Here are my steps for the week:

Friday – 10,654 steps
Saturday – 10,038 steps
Sunday – 11,286 steps
Monday – 9,567 steps
Tuesday – 10,209 steps
Wednesday – 10,148
Thursday – 11,021

This is the best week I’ve ever had with getting my steps in.

Hopefully, I can keep it up for this week.

If you missed yesterday’s post, I did a Fall Pattern Round-Up with my autumn designs. It’s not too late to make something easy and fun for the fall. Click Here for the post.

Fitness Friday & Items to Share

Happy Friday!! My step count started out slow at the beginning of the week where I was still recovering from the dreaded cough and virus. Monday through Thursday I really got my act together with 2 mile walks each day. I’m still not being good about tracking food and we had book club here on Wednesday night with lots of food and desserts that are still tempting me today. Tracking food is the key and I need to embrace it again.

Week of Sept. 5th
Friday -6,285
Saturday – 3,045
Sunday – 5,858
Monday – 10,081
Tuesday – 10,199
Wednesday – 10,354
Thursday – 10,256

Speaking of book club, this month’s selection is The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.

I noticed this morning that the Missouri Quilt Company has a new, cool Falling Triangles quilt tutorial featuring precuts. Here is the link:

Enjoy your Friday! I’m finishing the quilting on the baby mat and prepping for Lindsey’s belated friend birthday party…that’s a mouthful.

A Post-Finally! Catching Up.

Well, I didn’t mean to be away for as long as I was! I got home from vacation and promptly got sick and then forgot to renew my domain name which caused the website and blog to be down for a few days. So here it is Monday and I’m just getting back in the swing of things. The girls are embarking on their first full week of school! Yippppeeeee!!! Wait, did I just say that? LOL!!

I wanted to post a Fitness Friday report but that fell through when I realized my site was down. The report is dismal anyway due to illness but here goes from last week…

Friday Aug 29th – 4,246 steps
Saturday Aug 30th – no steps/sick in bed
Sunday Aug 31 – 2,932 steps/sick on couch
Monday Sept. 1 – 10 steps/don’t think I put the Fitbit on that day
Tuesday Sept. 2 – 3,522 more of the same
Wednesday Sept. 3- 8,204 steps- last day of summer run around
Thursday Sept. 4 – 4,345 steps – sat at my sewing machine! YAY!

Today is the first day I sort of feel human so I’m hoping to take a walk around lunch time.

Ok, postcard swap is upon us. Tomorrow I will be pairing up names so if you have not signed up yet, please do it today. You can message me on Twitter, leave a comment here by tonight or email me at sewsandi8@yahoo.com.

The following people have signed up:

Nonnie
Sandy H
Kim P
Jenny G
Glenna
Philipa

and myself

Today I’m working on finishing my submission for 100 Blocks Vol. 11 then I will start work on my Banned Book quilt. Next after that is the church fair advent calendar and then continuing on with the Lindsey Project and new designs for future patterns. So much to do and I’m finally excited to do it all! I think I had a major quilting slump over the summer but the mojo is returning.

Have a beautiful day.

Fitness Friday

I’m linking up with Ozzypip and Sandy of Quilting For The Rest of Us for our Friday fitness accountability posts.

Two days were spectacular as we were still in Disney World. Racking up steps there is super easy with all the walking around the parks and hotels you do.

I haven’t been very good since I arrived home. I haven’t made any specific move to exercise or walk. I blame it on the exhaustion of the trip, the plane ride and now a sore throat, ear ache and cough…all of which is viral says the doctor! I hope next week, I’ll get myself back into a routine again.

Here are my step counts for the week:

Friday 5,181
Saturday 17,009
Sunday 18,200
Monday 6,807
Tuesday 4,750
Wednesday 3,377
Thursday 5,026

Here’s hoping for a more fit next week!!!

Happy Fitness Friday!

This week I made decent progress on my walking. I hit over 10K steps every day but one. I am still walking in the morning before the girls are up and watching Bones on the treadmill which makes the time really pass quickly. If I don’t hit the 10K on my own during the rest of the day, I take a bunch of laps around the house until I reach it! It looks silly but it gets my count up!! Of course last night, I walked with a handful or two of peanut M&M’s and I knew that was just wrong….tasted good though 😉 The scale didn’t move this week even with the exercise but I didn’t expect it to because I didn’t track my food. I didn’t weigh or measure any portions and that is the key to weight loss. We are gearing up for our Disney trip and I know some serious steps will be counted there. I also know I will be eating and drinking more than usual so I don’t expect to lose any weight on the trip!! Not with coffee margaritas and Mickey shaped ice creams around!!! Also Lindsey’s birthday is in a few days and she has requested a chocolate cake with Bailey’s frosting…I don’t see myself refusing that.

I am following along with Ozzypip and her fitness journey. Click here for her blog.

Sandy of Quilting For The Rest Of Us is also joining in today. Not sure if her post is live yet but click here for her blog.

It’s a busy day of last minute errands and list checking. Leah received a gift card for a manicure at a local nail place so I’m taking the girls over for some pampering this morning. Leah is hoping for something Disney inspired like red nails with white polka dots.

I’d love to report some quilty progress but I don’t have any this week 🙁

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Fitness Friday & Art Quilt Progress

I kicked my walking up a notch this week. It was the first full week that I really tried to hit 10,000 steps daily. I managed to get over 10k five out of seven days this week. On the two days that I didn’t, I had 9K and 6k. I have even moved up on the Fitbit leader board by a spot or two and I dropped 2.5 pounds this week. I feel like it was a success even though I went out to eat for dinner one night and had frozen yogurt out with the girls yesterday.

I also made progress with The Lindsey Project. Yesterday morning was spent working on the foreground of the piece. The right side is nearing completion but I need more time in the sewing room to work on it. Hopefully this weekend I can sneak in there a few times and finish that part up.

My mother and I are taking on an Advent calendar project for the church fair. We are alternating red and green squares with stockings that are open at the top so a candy cane or other small treat can fit in there. On Tuesday we sorted through our fabrics and made a practice block. My mother spent the rest of the week working really hard on it and sent me this picture yesterday. The blocks have not been arranged in the final order in this photo.

I will work on the numbers for the stockings and the quilting/finishing. I think it’s going to be such a cute raffle in November.

How are you progressing this week?

Fitness Fri, Sewing & Cupcakes

This was going on today. I decided to take the afternoon and declare sewing time. The kids were occupied elsewhere in the house and I got Lindsey’s sleep shorts made.

photo 2 (2)

And they came out adorable except for one thing…she’s a teen who wears her shorts around her hips instead of her waist. Sigh. She pulled them up around her waist and did a little jig that she thought was hilarious but me, not so much. Seeing as I have two more pairs to make for two more teen/preteen girls, I had better figure this out. I texted my mom who suggested taking out the waist/elastic and shortening them from the waist. I think that’s a great idea…way better than me trying to take it from the crotch area. The seam ripper and I will have a little date tonight. I wish I had realized this was going to be a problem before I purchased the pattern. I got the pattern at Keepsake and I paid an arm and a leg for it mostly because I wanted the girls to pick fabric and be happy doing so the day we had made the trip there. In retrospect, I should have shopped around for a more current pattern that accounts for teens and their love of low slung pants. Live and learn and I’ll make adjustments and hopefully everyone will be happy. I was really just happy to be at the sewing machine.

I’m going to join Ozzypip with her Fitness Friday reports. I am trying very hard to get up and walk 2 miles in the morning while the kids are still sleeping. I am walking on the treadmill to shows on Netflix. Last week I walked to the first season of Cedar Cove. I’m through that and now I’m starting Bones. I am 1.5 episodes in and I love it. I never watched it while it was on regular tv but always thought it would be an interesting show to watch. I met my 10k step goal on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday I hit 9,553 and yesterday I didn’t wear my Fitbit because it was charging and we went to the beach.

I’m trying to get back on the TOPS eating plan but it’s hard when Lindsey keeps baking up yummy-ness like this:

photo 4 (1)

These are Lemon Scented Blueberry Cupcakes and they are heavenly. Heavenly. Did I mention they are good? She got the recipe off the flyer from the blueberry farm where we picked blueberries this week.

I’m off to seam rip…
