Fresh Start Monday

Happy Monday! Are you ready to be inspired for the week?

Today I have a great article for you on 16 Things Successful People Do On Monday Mornings. Maybe you could find a thing or two on the list to add to your routine and set you up for a successful week.

Etsy has opened a store inside of the famous Macy’s store in New York! Eight designers will have the chance to see their products inside the store. The designer list will rotate. Mostly it is designers from New York so if you fit the bill, check this out!

If you are a fan of vintage, Pyerex is turning 100 this year! Here’s a cute look back on the history of these iconic dishes!

If you need a quick Valentine gift, check out my Craftsy store for the Sweet Valentine Mug Rug and the cute Valentine mini quilt in First Seasonal Trio.

This weekend I worked on Amanda’s Love Notes Quilt. I have the center quilted and now I need to quilt the borders.

I only squeaked out one more block for the 1930’s Beach Quilt. It’s the Flower Basket block which is my current favorite!

These beauties came walking down the street Saturday! They took us all by surprise!

This weekend I decided to sign on as Creative Memories Advisor. I have long been a fan of scrapbooking and CM products. For years I wanted to be a Consultant or Advisor as they are called now. So I took the plunge hoping to reignite my own love of scrapbooking. Looking through photos is a beautiful way to revisit memories. My kids still pull out the scrapbooks I’ve completed and enjoy looking through them. And I do as well. So the next step of my scrapping journey continues. Please visit my Facebook page that I’ve set up for this purpose. It will be updated like the Facebook quilting page. I’d love for you to join me. You can sign up for bi-weekly newsletters on each page. You can also sign up for the same quilting bi-weekly newsletter on this page in the right sidebar.

I’m off to clean up my studio and get ready for a quilty week! Enjoy the day!

Monday Progress & Such

So…it’s snowing again. It wasn’t supposed to amount to much this morning but it sure is coming down hard. Sigh. Looks like another storm on Wednesday night too. Can we please be done?

The weekend was productive in some ways but not others as poor Amanda suffered with the stomach bug Friday night into the wee hours of Saturday morning. Thankfully she’s feeling better now and hopefully the rest of the house doesn’t fall like dominoes. Fingers crossed…toes too!

I’m behind with sharing a few photos…Leah won a Valentine Heart contest in her classroom with this thoughtful Valentine.

I really love this.

My cousin’s daughter, Melissa, spent her winter vacation sewing with my mom. She made a pattern from the First Seasonal Trio set and also designed this adorable Donald Duck mini quilt! She is one talented girl. I’m so thrilled she has the opportunity to sew with my mom and learn how to quilt. I hear she makes beautiful pillows as well. Awesome work, Melissa!

photo 2 (2)

My mom was busy finishing up her Lucky mini quilt and placemats. I love that she makes placemats to go with all of the mini’s. This just makes me happy…

photo 2 (3)

I made progress on my nephew’s t-shirt quilt and will start quilting it today.

I also signed up with Angel Outfitters to do some charity sewing in the form of bereavement buntings. These are tiny buntings that are donated to hospitals to clothe angel babies from 14-20 weeks. It will be sad sewing but my heart longs to do it and I welcome the chance to offer prayers for families and angel babies while I stitch them with care.

The buntings are very small. This is the practice one I made on Saturday.

Sunday afternoon I went to Joann’s and picked up 4 yards of flannel which is what the real ones will be made of.

If you are interested in helping out this wonderful group, you can find details at Angel Outfitters.

How was your weekend?

A Finish!

So long February vacation, I miss you already! The kids are back at it this morning and so am I….sigh. It was a great week complete with my birthday celebration and a quilty finish! Leah’s reverse applique turtle quilt is done and she’s pleased as punch…

photo (3)

My mom had a finish too…she’s working on the First Seasonal Trio mini quilts and she completed hers with another set of matching placemats…here is her Full Hearts mini quilt…

photo (1)

I meant to post this the week that I picked up my sewing machine from the shop and I forgot. This is what greets customers at the shop…The sign
reads, “I’m just waiting for my wife.”

Love it!

The countdown is on for me to gather my scrapbooking stuff and get it packed! I leave on Friday morning for a full weekend of scrapping fun in Connecticut. I have the photos printed and now I need to sort through papers and embellishments…

Have a beautiful day!

Tater Tots & A Book

Last night Lindsey made us dinner and it was fast and delicious. The recipe was from my 5 ingredient cookbook and it was called Tater Tot Bake.

photo (1)

We tweaked the recipe to omit the peas because no one (aside from me) will eat peas! Here is the recipe. It was warm in our tummies on such a cold night.

1 or 1.5 pounds ground beef
8.5 ounces can peas (drained) or 1 pound frozen bag of peas
8 ounce package of cheese slices (we just layered American and Provolone from the deli)
2 cans cream of chicken soup or cream of mushroom
32 ounce package frozen tater tots
2 cloves fresh garlic (optional)-we did’t have it on hand so we didn’t do this

1. Brown beef in a large skillet. Drain off drippings.
2. Grease a 9×13 baking pan. Place browned beef in bottom.
3. Add peas, cheese and then soup in that order.
4. Top with tater tots
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until bubbly and heated through.

I have something else for you today as well…I downloaded this book on Kindle and it’s free right now. So far I’m about 20 percent through it and it’s very good. You might want to check it out while it’s free. Double check the price before downloading, sometimes books are only free for a few days.

The description is as follows:
After getting fired from her most recent dead-end job, 23 year old Silvia Greco is broke and forced to move home to her father’s house in southern New Jersey. But she can’t sit around and mope too long, as she is immediately drafted into helping her mother plan a party for her younger brother’s high school reunion.

Getting her feuding Italian-American family together will not be easy as they haven’t been altogether in over 6 years; some members are not speaking to other members; and the parents of this family are newly separated. Getting the gathering to be a peaceful one will also be challenging as most of their past gatherings have been strife-filled.

Frank, the patriarch, is a judge, a drunk, and a bad cook. The mother, Donna, is a neurotic intellectual. The eldest, Angie, married rich and devastated her father by moving away to north Jersey. Silvia’s older brother, Cosmo, is a brilliant and talented underachiever. Her younger brother, Vince, is a super ambitious do-gooder.

Then there is Silvia: Energetic, idealistic, and restless, striving to bring her family together in hopes of saving them from becoming families that her parents come from in which members despise each other. She is sure that if they can all be in the same room where they can look into each other’s eyes that they will remember that they do love each other.

But are her well-crafted plans and tireless efforts enough to get them to go to the party? Can she bring them together and save them all?

Have a great day!
Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? There’s still time to make this mini quilt and even get ready early for St. Patick’s Day…

Fav Finds So Far

This week I tried out two new recipes that I found on Pinterest. Both were really good so I thought I’d pass them along to you as “tested”.

The first one was Chubby Chicken & Cream Cheese Taquitos.

My family really enjoyed these on Sunday night before the Golden Globe Awards. The filling actually made about 15 or so taquitos.

The second recipe I made for dinner last night but I heated up leftovers for breakfast…It was delicious. I used Jones All Natural sausage instead of regular as I try very hard not to eat anything with MSG. The recipe is Biscuit and Gravy Casserole.

This month I’m enjoying Lil Blue Boo’s series on Joy. She has daily posts that are uplifting and thought provoking as only Ashley can be… check it out HERE.

This week I am working on a bed runner project and feverishly working to get caught up on my Project Life album. Last night I got caught up through the end of October. My new album and supplies for 2014 will arrive tomorrow so I need to finish up 2013 soon.

Have a good day!
PS. Valentine’s Day is coming…you have time to make this!! Click Here to purchase pattern.

A Chilly Tuesday

This kind of sums up how I feel today…I need a steaming mug of something to ward off the cold temps…

photo (2)

Find the pattern here

It’s just.so.cold. I really feel for those of you who are suffering with even colder temps than we are here in MA. I nearly froze my face off at the bus stop this morning! I still can’t wrap my brain around how some of the kids didn’t want to wear jackets and opted for sweatshirts instead…really? I mean, really? I’ll take my hat, scarf, gloves and warm parka, thank you very much!

If you are interested in watching Sewing With Nancy on your Ipad, you may enjoy the PBS app where you can access lots of her half hour shows and some of her shorter video clips for free. Just search PBS in the app store on your Ipad. I’m going to watch her 30th anniversary specials this week. My mom was checking all of those out and she definitely recommends the app!

On Twitter recently, someone posted a link to a news story about a young woman who turned 24 and spent her birthday doing 24 random acts of kindness. I didn’t watch the video because I had some thoughts of my own based on just the headline. Something about it really spoke to me and I decided that when my birthday rolls around in February, I will tackle 43 random acts of kindness but I will give myself the year to complete them. I’ll keep track of what I’m doing and share it here. I didn’t watch the video because I didn’t want to be persuaded by what the young woman chose to do.
I’m sure I’m going to need a little help along the way with ideas for this project. What are some of your favorite RAK’s? Send me a note and I can get an idea page started. I’m sure that my birthday will be filled with fun and love as it always has been and I’d like to pay that all forward. It’s also a way to engage with others and continue to pay homage to my word choice of the year, “engage”.

During the hub bub of the holiday season I received news that a project I am working on will appear in the Autumn issue of Quilter’s World magazine! I am delighted to be part of that publication again.

Yesterday I finished up my Christmas wall hanging that has to be under wraps for a bit longer. Today I am working on the above mentioned Quilter’s World project which involves some flying geese…perfecting those is the project du jour!

What’s happening in your world today?

Double Slice Layer Cake & First Seasonal Trio

While I was at Keepsake Quilting, I picked up this Moda layer cake.
photo (46)

My plan for this is to make it into a Double Slice Layer Cake quilt for the music school to raffle off next year. My mom recently made this beautiful one with a Riley Blake layer cake (that rhymes quite nicely). LOL.

I love the way it came out. My mother found this tutorial from Missouri Quilt Company for instructions.

I am going to be posting photos of the Seasonal Trio pattern projects over the next few posts. Today’s post will feature the First Seasonal Trio pattern.
These patterns are available now for sale through QuiltWoman. Click here to see the patterns and so much more on that website!! The Seasonal Trio patterns are available as paper patterns and digital downloads.

Keepsake Trip, Summer Roller Coaster, Devotionals, Patterns & Give-Aways!

photo (35)

We had our wonderful trip to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor, NH last week. Here’s Leah picking out some Dr. Seuss fabric for some pillows she is going to make herself. The trip was a quick one but we managed to get into the quilt shop twice in 24 hours! I didn’t purchase a lot this time around as I made the mistake of going there without a clear plan. I was hoping for coordinating music themed fabric for the music school quilt but this time around the selection of music fabric was slim. Instead I opted for a non-music themed layer cake and I will make something of that for next year’s raffle.

Here are more pictures from the trip…

Trick Or Treat
Trick or Treat

These are 12″ x 12″ mini quilts that fit into the Ackfeld table stands.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them!

The last topic for today’s post has to do with the summer roller coaster syndrome I’m experiencing. Since the end of the school year, I feel as though I have pretty much just been struggling to keep up around here. The laundry is piled high, the flower beds need attention, the bathrooms need cleaning, the blog needs updating, a podcast is overdue, patterns need writing, new projects are a joke at the moment and no exercise is happening. The reasons why I’m behind are all fun things…the kids are home, the friends are over, places to go, packing for vacation, summer activities, etc, etc, etc. I have no right to complain but I still have that feeling that I’m not achieving anything. Honestly, it gives me anxiety. I just want to pass along to you that it seems every time I’m down and I open my Daily Guideposts book, the exact right message is waiting for me and somehow makes me feel better. I don’t know if you are familiar with Daily Guideposts but it’s a book that contains a daily devotional. I went on their website this morning and saw that you can sign up for a free 30 day devotional by email. So for 30 days, you will receive an email with a devotional. It’s a nice way to try it out. This is not something sponsored just something that I thought you might want to try out.

Happy Sunday!

Workin’ On It & A Sneak Peek Reveal!!!

This week has been a quiet one and I loved it! We went to the beach and I tried out my first in the hoop embroidery design. I had seen quite a few people making these on Twitter and I figured I’d give it a try…now I know why they made them…they are addictive!!! These are little pouches that you fit on your key-chain with a split ring. It’s big enough for chap-stick, coins, Splenda, etc.

Here are the ones I made this week:

They will be available through QuiltWoman, shops near you and through my website.
