Learning to Foundation Paper Piece!

Nearly every month this year, I am holding a skill building workshop for my students. This month we learned how to foundation paper piece! We focused on making a few blocks using the paper piecing method in an effort to familiarize ourselves with the process and the tools needed. If you have ever paper pieced, you are aware that this technique can be a little tricky on your brain! Working on the back of a foundation paper where you can’t always quite visualize the outcome is indeed daunting but….once your brain catches on, you’re on easy street!

Here are some photos from our fun day! I set up our ‘classroom’ the day before and I couldn’t wait for everyone to arrive!

Everyone got to work right away…

We cut, stitched, trimmed, and pressed!

Gail was hard at work stitching away!

And then pretty soon, we had some finishes!!! Yay!!!!

Nancy whipped up her square in a square lickity split!

Sharyn was right behind her…

Once we finished the square in a square, we worked on some tree blocks. Look at these beauties…

Everyone went home with patterns to make the heart, birdhouse, and star blocks.

This group of ladies is so very special to me. They have truly formed a beautiful community among themselves always being supportive. We’ve shared hearty laughs and also some tears. I am so honored to be part of this group that not only produces stunning work week after week but they are thoughtful, generous, and kind in spirit. I especially can’t wait for my mom to join us in a few weeks when she relocates to our area. It’s going to be a great quilting year!
