Like Sands Through The Hourglass…

I’ve never watched Days of Our Lives but I couldn’t resist this tagline! I was a Guiding Light girl…I miss that show.

This afternoon I got the hourglass blocks laid out on the living room floor. My design wall is still sporting the Lindsey Project quilt so I had to resort to the floor.

I think it’s working up nicely.

Greg came across an interesting article the other day about how Germany is considering a ban on late-night work emails. Evidently they did a study that showed a relationship between constant availability and an increase in mental illness. If this ban goes through, employees would be allowed to ignore emails that arrive after 6pm. One company even allowed 100,000 of their employees to delete any such emails. I would LOVE to see this adopted here in the USA. After-all late night emails could seriously cut into quilting time for some people!! The article even points out that people should have time to develop their hobbies and personalities without the stress of a request sitting in their inbox. Here is the link to the article…

What do you think about this? Do you frequently receive work emails late at night and does it stress you out?

  1. I don’t get them as often as my husband does, but I do get them; primarily because I work for a national organization of volunteers. So most people I work with don’t get to our “shared work” until after their own working hours, therefore, that’s when the emails come. I also work with teenagers and young adults who live on a completely different clock than I do regardless of time zones! I have to remember to set my own boundaries. I’m fortunate in serving an organization that’s mostly very understanding of that–it’s more my own limits. But I do sometimes scold my husband for checking his work email for the 50th time right as he’s heading for bed. That can’t be good for sleep!

Love the hourglass quilt! Very happy and summery!

  2. It’s not the emails as much as the damn telemarketers – don’t they realize that I am certainly not buying whatever they are selling when they interrupt my dinner or worse my sewing time?

I love your little hourglass quilt, very scrappy cheerful 🙂

  3. Germany also has a minimum of 4 weeks vacation for employees. There is a completely different attitude towards employees in Europe. Maybe they’re on to something?

Your hourglass quilt is very cute! Nice colour combination.
