Throwback Thursday & Heifer

I decided to link up with Quiltin’ Jenny today for Throwback Thursday.

I made this quilt a few years ago when I first received my Accuquilt Baby Go Cutter. I couldn’t wait to make a tumbler quilt. I had seen a miniature tumbler quilt made out of 1930’s Repro fabrics at a quilt show. It was covering a beautiful wooden doll cradle and I just loved it. The tumblers were about 1.5″ each…very, very small. I decided to get the tumbler die and make a larger one. This quilt is also small; more like a lap quilt or baby play mat.

I loved the fabrics I found at the local quilt shop and enjoyed making this quilt. I pulled it out of the storage box to take the photo today and now I think I’ll leave it on my bed as a lap quilt when I’m reading. I also think I’d like to tackle a larger version with different fabrics sometime in the future.

This week the girls and I visited my mother and we all took a trip to the Heifer International Farm in Rutland, MA. I’m sure many of you have heard of the Heifer Project which is a worldwide effort to supply less fortunate countries with livestock as a way of helping them sustain themselves. Money is raised to help purchase animals of all kinds and the recipients pay it forward with the offspring. It’s a wonderful project and they are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year. As former Sunday School teachers, my mother and I are very familiar with the Heifer Project as our churches have helped raise money for it throughout the years.

The Heifer Farm has several barns, gardens, gift shop and a Global Village to walk through when you visit. The Global Village has several huts and crops that are representative of some of the countries that Heifer works in. It was fun to see the animals and pet them. The girls enjoyed it. The farm offers day trips for groups, summer camp and a host of other activities. Click Here for their website.
