A Finish, Flower Beds & Progress

Wow, what an awesome long weekend we had around here!! The weather was perfect for gardening, grilling, swimming and stitching!

Greg and I spent a great deal of time in the yard getting the flower beds and the vegetable garden ready for planting. He did the very hard work of mowing, mulching and rototilling. I got the weeds pulled and everything planted. Lindsey helped with the veggie plants and seeds.

The front flower beds look so much better now that two or three dead Azaleas have been pulled up and out! I also pulled out a huge amount of perennials that have been taking over for 18 years or so. I would much rather a garden with space in between the plants but until all those perennials are eventually out of the flower beds for good, I’ll have to go about it by yanking plants out each year. This is how the front beds look now…nice and clean with space. I wish I had a before picture of how overgrown it really was here.

This back flower bed now has a blueberry bush added to it. It’s our second blueberry bush in the yard. Lindsey is really the one into the blueberries and she wanted a second bush so she can eat more! LOL!

I am going to add some marigolds and petunias in there too.

I managed to get in a few moments of Sashiko while the kids were swimming in the afternoons and I finished the piece I had been working on. Today I made it into a pillow for my bed and I’m really pleased with how it came out.

My next Sashiko piece will be this panel that I picked up at the Maui Quilt Shop last August.

I also spent a small amount of time on the Lindsey Project and now she has some legs going on…

  1. Your yard looks really good. You really seem to have enjoyed the doing. Sometimes that’s hard to do. The sashiko pillow is absolutely beautiful! And I’m sure Lindsey is glad to see her portrait quilt coming along. Happy spring!

  2. Your sashiko (auto correct really thinks that should be sashimi!) is beautiful. I’ve never tried it, but I’ve been doing some more hand stitching lately so maybe I should have a go.

  3. Oh my, Sandi, your flower beds look gorgeous! I know how hard you worked because I was pooped after several hours of planting, even though we didn’t have to get rid of anything, but grass. I love your sashiko pillow, I’ll have to research if they sell anything with dark brown fabric. I love navy, but our furniture covers are mostly brown. Your stitching is very pretty. I bet Leah will want that turtle for herself! :))) what a great progress on the Lindsey project, it’s coming along really nicely. Did you start marking her eyes and mouth, or I’m just pretending?

    • Thanks Kati. The Sashiko kits do come in some other colors. I know Shibori Dragon has several kits. I drew in the eyes and mouth on Lindsey but haven’t put any fabric to it yet. Hopefully next week, I have to work on a t shirt quilt this week.
