A Fun Finish!

I finished up my nephew’s T-Shirt quilt yesterday. He had a collection of t-shirts from baseball, basketball, vacation and sports teams that he assembled for me to make his quilt. I found a cool, green fleece to back the quilt with and now it’s very snuggly and super warm! Some light quilting holds the layers together and it’s ready to be handed over to Jon! It measures 55″ x 55″.

I was a nervous about my sewing machine handling the fleece but it worked out fine. I know one of my machines is finicky about it but it must not be the one I was working on.

Next up is my niece’s t-shirt quilt which will be all about marching band and figure skating! I’m looking forward to working on this for Rachel.

Leah is eyeing some dance recital t-shirts for when it’s her turn!

Tell me about your t-shirt quilt process….

    • I saw yours on your blog, it’s coming out great. If I had a long arm machine, I’d have set this one up on it but for now some straight lines will have to do!

  1. Great finish!

You are right about the costs of tshirt quilts…. the costs do add up for the interfacing, etc…. I lucked out for my recent tshirt to quilt and bag sewing…. If I were to make many more of these, I’d probably purchase my interfacing through Pam @ https://www.fashionsewingsupply.com/ — she has some great WIDE width interfacing that fuse beautifully.

I made one from new tshirts in January for a silent auction and it quilted up great on the longarm with fleece on the back…. My daughter purchased it in the auction and loves snuggling under it!

    • I will definitely check out the link for the interfacing. I was surprised at how much that costs per yard at the store. Sometimes I can get it with a 40% off coupon which helps a lot. I would love to put the t-shirt quilts on a long arm. I don’t have one but it sure would come in handy. They are heavy to maneuver under the domestic.
      Thanks for stopping by!
