Sewing Cabinet

So lately I was thinking it would be nice to have a sewing cabinet that was compact enough to fit in the dining room for the Featherweight. I started trolling Craig’s List hoping to find something for around $50. I immediately came upon a listing for exactly what I was looking for that included a built in chair! In fact I think the chair made me just fall in love with it. After a few emails and lost emails, I finally got in touch with the woman who listed the cabinet this morning. She said her apartment was just too small to keep this any longer. It was priced at $50 which just happened to be my winnings from a scratch ticket last week! I had tucked the $50 away for future vacation souvenir money but saw this and decided to go for it instead.

I picked it up this morning and it turned out to be just a bit lighter in color than the listing photo showed but it still goes ok with the dining room table and the piano. I raced upstairs to get the Featherweight and was slightly disappointed to see that the width of the Featherweight is about a 1/2 inch wider than the opening. My other machines will fit fine though…and the Featherweight can still sit atop the cabinet and be used from there.

Under the chair is a pull-out a drawer that is quite roomy and has a space to put spools of thread! I am feeling so lucky to have found this little gem! I guess it’s a Christmas gift to myself…

Here it is…do you own a table like this with the hidden chair? I didn’t even know there was such a thing.

We are headed for the Nutcracker later so I have to run…have a wonderful Saturday!

  1. That’s very cute. I’ve not seen a hidden chair like that–fantastic. First thing you should sew yourself is a cute chair cushion! Sorry the featherweight doesn’t fit–is there any way someone with a router could shave off more space? In any case, what a great find and Merry Christmas!

  2. Love it! What a great early Christmas gift. This is just so cute and compact. Does the sewing cabinet have any information on it as to the company that make this style?
