Friday, Hawaiian Impressions, Trip to Jo’s

Happy Friday!! Yay, we made it!!!

I like Fridays because I get to work on my Hawaiian Impressions projects and some free motion quilting practice.

This morning I finished up the second Hawaiian Impression piece and it is based on a photo from the sun setting over Lanai as seen from the Kam 3 beach in Maui.

I used Inktense Blocks on a piece of muslin and then thread sketched over the entire piece.

For all of the thread sketching except the black on the tree and very bottom, I used Sulky Blendables thread. On the tree and the bottom, I used Coats and Clark Heavy thread. I had some tension issues with this new thread but it ended up working out. I needed to turn increase my tension knob all the way to “7” and had to make sure I had the same thread in the bobbin.

I am very pleased with this piece and here it is next to the Blue Ginger one that I completed earlier this month.

I am dying to start the next one which will have a little something to do with hula dancing…stay tuned…

For my free motion quilting practice, I worked on concentric circles (in black) and concentric circles combined with pebbles (in gray). As you can see, my concentric circles need some work in terms of getting the circles evenly spaced. Next up will be squares…

Went to Joann’s yesterday for that black Coats and Clark thread and saw this cute elf fleece…how adorable?

I also see they got some new signage in the Disney novelty section…
