Thankful Thursday

ThankfulThursdays

Thankful Thursday. You might be thinking yeah right, what is there to be thankful for in this crazy world this week? And on Monday around 3pm, I might have agreed with you but after few moments of reflection, I can’t tell you enough how thankful I am.

I don’t live in the city of Boston proper but I grew up 7 miles west of it, currently live about 50 minutes south of it and spent a few years working in it. When we go on vacation and people ask, “Where are you from?”, we always say Boston. It’s a beautiful city. It’s a proud city. We are proud to live here. The acts of one person or several will not take that away from any of us.

Monday was hard. The kids are on vacation. It’s difficult to explain to a 10 year old that an 8 year old is dead. It’s difficult to watch the news and see the carnage and the mayhem on what is historically a super fun day in Boston. When I was young, my aunt and uncle took us to see the marathon and we held cups of water out for the runners. I’ll always remember that.

My husband is usually working that day and heads over to see the runners. He would have been there if he was not helping me paint Leah’s room. When the original plan to paint her room in March didn’t work out, I was annoyed but now I see it wasn’t supposed to work out. Greg was not supposed to be in Boston on Monday. I am thankful.

I am thankful for every person who ran towards the scene to help on Monday. I am thankful for a faith that allows me to tell my girls with absolute certainty that even though we are so terribly sad for the three victims of the blast, we can take comfort in knowing that they are in a good place. That only God knows how many spins around this earth we receive. That had they not been at the marathon, God would still have called them home because it was their time.

Monday was a disaster but Boston will pull through and will turn our prayers to Texas and the tragedy that unfolded there last night. We saw first hand that even though it seems like the world is spinning out of control, there are good people. Heroes among us. Reason upon reason to be thankful.

Find something to be thankful for today and post it here.

  1. I am thankful that my daughter has such a strong faith. It will see her through life’s difficulties. As my Uncle Rich always said to me, “Keep the faith”.

  2. So, so true! I am thankful today for a rainy day because I am sick and need to rest. I am thankful for my collie, abbey who is laying next to me with cuddles.
I am thankful for the cuddly quilt my mom gave me, feels good.

  3. It’s so sad 🙁 I’m glad you decided to paint that room on Monday. After what happened I’m thankful I still have 2 legs I could use for running yesterday. Unlike a lot of other people who got hurt 🙁 Thank you for sharing your thought Sandi, they brought tears in my eyes.

  4. My prayers are with the victims and families affected by the Boston Marathon explosions and Texas explosion.

I’m thankful for God’s word and reminders that He is here even in circumstances that we can’t understand. I’m also thankful for my family.
