This is part three of a three part blog series on my trip to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor. If you missed the first two parts and would like to catch up, click the following links.

On Sunday morning my mom, Lindsey and I decided to go to Keepsake Quilting one more time before heading home. Mom and I both had “one more thing” we wanted to purchase. We finished up in the shop and hit the road for home. We knew we would need to stop for lunch along the way and my mom suggested Joey’s Diner in Amherst, NH. Amherst is about an hour and half south of Center Harbor. I was excited to try Joey’s Diner as I had never been there before and Joey is my cousin’s husband! I knew Lindsey would enjoy eating in a 1950’s style diner as we had done so twice before at Corvette Diner in San Diego and we loved it.

This is the outside of Joey’s Diner. I love the retro look and couldn’t wait to get inside!!

Once inside, you are transported to the 1950’s with all of the great decor! The jukebox near the front of the restaurant is a cool piece of memorabilia.

There are vintage toy cars and planes hanging from the ceiling everywhere in the dining room.

Here are more photos of the dining area…

The restaurant is spacious and clean. Here is the counter where you can slide on in for a bite to eat and a milk shake!

I wish this photo came out less blurry but I was taking pictures on my iphone and they don’t always come out great. I love how the car is protruding from the wall!

Lindsey and I ordered chocolate milk shakes and we were thrilled when the drinks arrived and we also got the can it was mixed in! It was really like having two shakes instead of one and we knew were were going to be full after drinking those plus eating our meals.

How cute are these two?

I was trying to figure out why I didn’t have any pictures of our meals on my phone to share and I realized that’s because when the meals arrived, I had pulled out my Flip Video camera and I took video of the food instead of still shots. Soooo….later in the week, I’ll be posting my video cast on Youtube and you can meet Joey and see our meals! I’ll also have small clips of footage from the rest of the trip. I can tell you I ordered the most delicious sandwich that was a Honey BBQ Chicken sandwich. It had a huge piece of boneless fried chicken, honey bbq sauce, cheese, bacon and ranch dressing all on grilled sour dough bread and fries! It was a large meal and very tasty. This is one of Joey’s own signature creations.

My mom ordered the Reuben and it also was a large sandwich filled with corned beef and cheese. She ordered it with mayo instead of Russian dressing because that was her preference (I would like the dressing) and her plate was heaped with fries as well. And Lindsey…oh my goodness, she ordered a breakfast plate of a half rack of ribs, two eggs over easy, homefries and toast! You can imagine that after a big chocolate shake, most of her meal came home with us. She did eat every last bite the next day for lunch!

At Joey’s you can order breakfast, lunch or dinner. I would highly recommend stopping here on your way home from Keepsake or anywhere in NH. It was a good location, easy to find, plenty of parking! Our waitress was terrific and of course, we got to see Joey which was a highlight!

This was truly a great weekend getaway! I had some of my favorite people with me, visited my favorite quilt shop, had a lovely and clean place to sleep and a few excellent meals!

I did hear from Keepsake Quilting through Twitter yesterday that they were following the story on the blog and they have linked this blog to their Facebook page ~ so go read the comments people have left there about their love for Keepsake as well.

The video cast will hopefully be out this week and I’ll see you then!
Have a super day!
Sandi
