Third Seasonal Trio QCP-103

So come and get your summer patterns while the weather is hot and the sewing room is hopefully cool!

This week I’m still plugging along on quilting the love notes quilt for Lindsey. I am enjoying ruler work for the lines on the  inner border and the center block flower motif. The outer border is getting a stipple treatment. The corners of the love notes are getting a free motion back and forth squiggle. How’s that for a technical term?

This is taking time but as I mentioned, I’m ok with that because I like the results. The rulers are fun to work with and I’m discovering more things I can do with the ones I own. It’s also the first time I’m floating a quilt top which simply means the top is not attached to a roller. I’m using the painter’s tape that you see in the photo as a guide on each end of the pole. I know my quilt top must line up with the tape or it will be quilted crooked. It’s good to keep learning and using easier ways to quilt.

Have a super weekend, everybody!

New Thread and an Easter Pattern

This week I tried out my new Glide thread from FilTec on the long arm. I had previously been using a cotton thread that was pretty linty in the machine. This one is a soft polyester thread with a sheen like rayon. It’s strong and practically lint free. It took me a bit to get the tension correct for using it but once I did, I had smooth sailing. I like it a lot.

My color play quilt is what I used it on and I am pleased with the results. This was also a practice with ruler work for me. I can’t wait to get the next quilt on the machine!

A Late Throwback & Thanksgiving

I’m late in getting my Throwback post up for the week. This wall hanging is one of my very first attempts at a landscape/art quilt. It’s a quilt of my grandmother’s home on the Cape. I’m not sure what year I made this…sometime probably between 2005-2010?

photo (23)

My grandmother, Leahbelle, had this beautiful house in West Yarmouth which the whole family would visit during the summers as often as we could. It was a short walk to the beach and she had lovely gardens, shuffle board, blueberry bushes and lots of card games and crafts going on. The house is bigger than it looks in this photo as you can’t see the bay windows on the right side of the house which was her kitchen. The second floor of the house alone had two large bedrooms with a total of 6 twin beds and 1 full bed plus a bathroom. A nautical theme was carried through each room. I have so many good memories of time spent there with my family and extended family. When I close my eyes, I can see every detail of Grammy Lee’s house right down to the Tupperware of Ranger Cookies that were always waiting on top of the freezer chest in the kitchen. Grammy Lee and her husband, Ted, were avid crafters. Everything from sewing, home decor, hooked rugs, crochet, toy making, woodworking, painting, you name it…they created it. I wish I could have been more interested in what they were doing back then as I would be now. I think we could have endless conversations about crafting. I was more interested back then in the beach and any cute boy riding a bicycle through the neighborhood!! LOL!

I created this quilt as a reminder of how much the house meant to all of us. The quilt is fused and the actual house is a photograph printed on fabric paper. I added in the trees, flowers and bird house. I think if I made this quilt today, I’d have looked for another way to make those trees! I’m fairly sure I’d throw some textile paint on there as well.

Tomorrow I’m heading to the Quilter’s Gathering in NH. It’s a fairly large quilt show and I’m very excited to walk around and see the quilts and how vendors are displaying quilt samples. I’m 99% sure I’ll be vending the craft fair in town on Dec. 6th and as this will be my first time vending, I need some ideas on making the most of my 10’x10′ space.

The 10% off sale on Christmas patterns in my store is still happening through midnight on Sunday. Go check it out and see if you find something you like! I have some notions to go along with the patterns as well. Here’s a few Thanksgiving quilts that are also available. This first one, Bountiful, is from the Fourth Seasonal Trio Pattern and the second one is from my book, Little Quilts For Big Occasions.

Works In Progress

Happy Happy Wednesday!!!

This week has been a productive one around here. I’ve been mostly working on getting Leah’s Elsa costume ready. She has a Halloween party coming up soon and so it has to be done by then and of course, ready for Halloween night. Leah found a do it yourself type costume on the internet where you make the skirt, bodice and cape. The neck and sleeves are just a white t-shirt. I asked her if she wanted to order a costume but she really wanted it to look like the pictures she found. It’s turning out to be fairly simple. Basically all the pieces are made, we just need to get them all on her for a trial run.

Here is Leah helping to make the cape. The white snowflakes are fabric and the smaller ones that shimmer are painted paper. We used tacky glue to attach to the tulle.

photo 3 (15)

This is how it will all look. She will have her hair done with a nice side braid just like Elsa’s.

This week I also started making drawstring backpacks and makeup bags for a comic show that a friend is vending. Hoping to finish those up today.

I am also working on setting up a store front on my website so that I can sell my patterns for cute projects like these right on my website….

Of course you can still find these on Craftsy in my pattern shop there. Eventually I’ll have some notions for sale there as well.

Hope you are having a crafty week!!!

Sweet 16

photo 1 (6)

My baby girl turns 16 tomorrow! I can hardly believe it. Seems like it wasn’t that long ago that we brought her home from the hospital and she wouldn’t sleep at all that first night! No matter what we did or where we placed her, she wasn’t having it. LOL. We called the 24 hour line at the hospital maternity floor because we had NO IDEA what we were doing!! Funny now but 16 years ago, not so much.

Our family and one of Amanda’s friends headed to Providence, RI Saturday night to celebrate. We did lots of shopping (3 story mall), lots of eating at Fire & Ice and we stayed over night at the Hilton down there. It was a fun celebration for her and for us too. We had a nice brunch the next morning then we had to hurry home as two of our girls were in a performance in the afternoon. Lindsey sang and played piano and Amanda played piano and flute. They did a great job and we were so proud of them. Tomorrow we will celebrate the ‘real day’and per request of the birthday girl, have strawberry shortcake.

I got a few pictures of evidence that spring is really here…despite the fact it was 39 degrees this morning and my heat is still running…

New Look And Progress

The blog looks different but it’s still little o’l me doing the posting! It was time for a fresh, new look around here. What do you think?

Over the weekend I managed to get a few small things accomplished. Whenever I had time over the last few days, I hopped into the sewing room and did a step on a project here and there…and it added up to some finishes…

I made 5 Comfort Bears so that the next time the police station needs replenishing, I’ll have a bunch ready for them.

photo 2 (1)

I worked on more buntings for Angel Outfitters. I have 12 made so far.

photo 1 (1)

I pulled out the Cozy Toes pattern that I received from my mom at Christmas (ordered through Nancy’s Notions) and made some slippers. These are a smidge too small for me so they now belong to Amanda. She was thrilled. I’ll make them again but this time using Sherpa for the lining instead of faux fur. The fur was a mess to work with and it was hard to sew because I couldn’t see where I was sewing with all that fluff in the way.

photo 3 (1)

Saturday I took a 3.5 mile walk with Amanda. My Fitbit probably thought I was having a major malfunction…I logged 12,500 steps!! We also took a picture of this cute mailbox along the way.

photo 4 (1)

Easter is around the corner and you have time to make this mini quilt…it’s from the Second Seasonal Trio series and measures 12″ x 12″. You can order here.

Easter Joy
